Extreme 2 was another mid series break and also the beginning of the "McGee era" of the show. Extreme 2 featured a new arena, new robots, new recording style and much more. This serves a purpose, other than entertainment, it serves the job of showing off how things have changed and what can be improved for the upcoming Series 3. Of course there's still the odd flaw here and there, such as the lighting and the fact that it's the really ugly 2016 Robot Wars arena, and some of these issues were included for Series 3 also. However, it also highlights a massive upgrade from Series 1-2 in terms of the technical department. It's no wonder then that Extreme 2 did so well when it aired.
